Dec. 17, 1959 BERYL S. HOLMES A Portland woman, Mrs.Beryl S. Holmes, 60, 121 North Warren street, and widow of the late Bruce Holmes, was found dead at her home Wednesday. Mrs. Bywater, a neighbor, called Jay Clark, Portland Chief of police, when she had not seen Mrs. Holmes that morning and believed something wrong. When Chief Clark discovered Mrs.Holmes dead in bed, he summoned sheriff Peter Van Vleck and Coroner Dale Kauffman. Coroner Kauffman said she died from a coronary thrombosis about 6 a.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Holmes had been an antique dealer for several years. Surviving are two brothers, Leigh H. Thomas of Ann Arbor and Gail D of Howard City; one sister, Mrs.John Strandberg of Detroit. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Neller funeral home in Portland with the Rev. Herbert Kinsey officiating and interment in Portland cemetery. Mrs. Holmes was county secretary for the polio organization for 15 years and secretary of the Congregational guild and a member of the township library board. She is a former school teacher. She was born March 17, 1899. Her husband died in 1957 and was station agent for the C & O Railroad.
