When a young child she moved with her parents to Canada. She was converted to God at the age of sixteen and joined the Free Will Baptist church of which she remained a member until her removal to Michigan, then she united with the Episcopal Methodist, of which she was a member at the time of her death. She was married to Fred W. Holmes December 7, 1852. They lived in Canada until the spring of 1867, when they came to Orleans, Ionia county, and purchased the farm upon which they now reside. There was born to them four children, three sons and a daughter, all of whom are now living. Through her long illness she was the most patient of sufferers, and often talked of the heavenly home to which she was going. A home is bereft of a loving wife and mother.
