He had been in ill health for several years. He was born in Germany January 17, 1854 and came to America when he was 19 years of age, direct to Ionia, where he had lived since. He was employed at the Pere Marquette carshops, and married Miss Wilhelmina Ammon, who died July 13, 1917. For the past several years he had made his home with his sister. Mr. Holtz was the only remaining charter member of the St. John’s Lutheran church. Surviving him are one son, Robert Holtz, rural route Ionia, and one sister, Mrs. Louis Melzow. One daughter died at the age of 12. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the home of Louis Melzow, 423 Hill street, and at the St. John’s Lutheran church at 2 o’clock, with Rev. R. A. Rook officiating, and interment at the family lot at Highland Park cemetery.
