The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Monday, December 14, 1931

Mrs. Mary A. Hood, 74, died late Saturday at Mt. Pleasant after a long 
illness.  Funeral services were held there Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock 
conducted by Rev. Hawkins, pastor of the Presbyterian church, and interment 
was in Bay City cemetery.

Mrs. Hood was a resident of Ionia for about a year, living here with Mr. and 
Mrs. C. A. Hood in their home on Morse street.  About a month ago she 
accompanied her son when the family left Ionia and removed to Mt. Pleasant.

Mrs. Hood was for many years a Bay City resident and was widely known there, 
where for years she served as matron of the Bay City home for aged women.  Her 
health, none too robust in recent years, was further impaired by grief at the 
unexpected death of her son, William Hood, about a year ago.  She was a member 
of the Presbyterian church in Bay City, and had always taken an active 
interest in the affairs of the church.
