Hooper, 85, died Sunday morning at the home of his son, Glenn Hooper, No. 6 Amphlette Terrace. He had been in ill health for many months but only seriously ill a short time. He was born November 14, 1857, in Simpsonberg, Canada. He came to the United States with his parents at the age of two months and they lived near Ada. His father helped to build the Grand Trunk railroad there and after a few years, moved to Bowne township where his father purchased government land at $1.25 an acre. They cleared the land and built a log cabin to live in. Fred Hooper worked nearly 25 years at the Ionia Pottery company. He was a member of the Maccabees. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Pearl Husted of Muir, Mrs. Mabel Pawson of Lansing and Mrs. Grayce VanHouten of Lansing; two sons, Glenn Hooper of Ionia and Lewis Hooper of Grand Rapids; ten grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death eight years ago and a son, Clyde, was killed in an automobile accident several years ago. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Bradley funeral home. Rev. Paul Stewart will officiate and burial will be in the family lot beside his wife in Highland Park cemetery.
