The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, April 1999

Geraldine J. Hoople, 82, of Ionia, passed away Thursday, April 15, 1999, at 
Ionia County Memorial Hospital.  She was born the daughter of Earl and Edith 
(Markle) Seely in Ionia, on April 22, 1916.  She was a 1934 graduate of Ionia 
High School.  She married Russell Hoople on July 15, 1937.  He passed away on 
March 18, 1967.  For many years they owned and operated Jerry’s Paint Store, 
in Ionia.  She was a long-time member of the Order of Eastern Star, and the 
First Baptist Church of Ionia, as well as being a “grandparent” at Freedom 
Acres School.

Surviving are her children; Earlene (Joe) Nunes of Melbourne, Fla., Philip 
(Kathy) Hoople of Ionia, Patricia (Bill) Rudolph of Jackson, nine 
grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  

Cremation took place at her request.  A memorial service will be held on 
Monday, April 19, 1999 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. James 
Bennett officiating.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for First Baptist 
Church has been established and envelopes will be available at the church.
