Hoople, 88, of Stanton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 5, 2003 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born July 21, 1914 in Belding, the daughter of Edward and Bertha (Belding) Ranous. She graduated from Belding High School in 1933 and also attended college for several years. On April 26, 1936 she married Evylin (Bill) Hoople, who survives, and recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. They lived for many years in the Sheridan area until moving to Stanton in 1991. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Gladys and Alton Elliot, Hazel and Clifford Condon and one grandson, Derik Whitney. Her proudest accomplishment was her family; children, Betty (Tom) Olson of Shepherd, Marjory (William) Redick of Belmont, Marilyn (Stephen) Chapin of Stanton, Bruce (Janis) Hoople of Stanton. Dorothy and Bill also had 11 grandchildren; MariAnne (Frank) Reihl of Beal City, Amy (Terry) Fewless of Mecosta, Thomas (Patti) Olson of Remus, Diana (Philip) Griffith of Jenison, Darryl Redick (special friend Cynthia Register) of Wyoming, Chris (Deborah) Chapin of Stanton, Kim (Kevin) Greenhoe of Stanton, Darcie (Scott) Herkimer of Wilmington, Delaware, Wendy Hoople of Orlando, Florida, Sarah Hoople of Brooklyn, New York and Alicia Hoople of Stanton. The family grew with 13 great grandchildren as well, including Andrew and Mark Reihl, Jason Donley, Amanda, Courtney, and Abby Olson, Josiah and Rachel Griffith, Melissa Crooks, Brandon and Garret Whitney and Elise and Samuel Herkimer. Dorothy also had many special nephews, nieces and cousins. She was an important part of local 4-H activities, Wednesday Coffee Club, Ladies Aid and VFW Post #5065 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a wonderful cook and always made sure everyone had plenty to eat. She loved family get togethers and leaves a legacy of stories and family lore. She also took great pleasure in her flower garden and watching birds. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hurst Funeral Home of Greenville with visitation Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dorothy’s life will be celebrated t a service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Burial will be at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Bushnell Township only a few mils from where Dorothy and Bill lived on the family farm.
