Hoople Dies Here Russell E. Hoople, 50, of 226 1/2 West Main, and Ionia merchant for many years, died early Saturday morning after an extended illness of more than 10 months. Mr. Hoople, who was the son of the late Herman and Dedie Hoople of Ionia, was born August 11, 1916 in Muir. A graduate of Ionia high school in 1935, he had been employed in the Ionia General Motors plant in the payroll office from 1940 to; 1945. As a high school senior he had been employed at Van's Wallpaper store and following graduation he became manager of that store. He returned to the store following General Motors employment during the war and in 1946 the store was sold to Gerald Guikema, becoming Jerry's Wallpaper and Paint store. Hoople purchased the business in 1957 along with the building and with his wife and son Phillip, continued the business. In 1965 his son became a partner. He will continue the store operation. Mr. Hoople was a member of the Ionia Chamber of Commerce and had belonged to Ionia Jaycees. Surviving are his wife, the former Geraldine Seeley; two daughter, Mrs. Leo Thomas of Ionia and Patricia Hoople of Greenville; a son Phillip and four grandsons. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home in Ionia. Interment will be at Highland Park cemetery. A memorial fund for the American Cancer Society has been established.
