Obituary Pearl Smith Hoover, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Smith, born in Campbell township August 1, 1896, died of pneumonia at the Nichols Memorial Hospital, October 28, 1918, at the age of 22 years, 2 months and 27 days. Deceased lived nearly all her life in the community where she was born, attending the Darby school where she completed the first eight grades, after which she spent four years in the Lake Odessa high school, graduating in 1914. She accepted Christ uniting with the Church of the Brethren at the age of ten and lived a devoted Christian life. She was united in marriage to Buryl E. Hoover, a graduate of Hastings high school, August 22, 1917. Soon after marriage they moved to Onekama, Mich., where Mr. Hoover was engaged in teaching until he was called to Camp Custer May 26. Three weeks later she went to Battle Creek where she could be near him, remaining there until called home to rest. She leaves to mourn her early departure her husband, father, mother three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Walter Kimmel, east of town, Mabel, who graduated from Lake Odessa last spring.
