Hopkins, 76, known as Bert, of 244 South Higbee, Lyons, died Friday evening at the Ionia Manor following an extended illness. Born July 29, 1898, in Lyons township, he was the son of Albert and Myrtle Taylor Hopkins and attended the Murphy school. He was married to Vivian Sterling, who died September of 1948. He was employed by the Vinton Construction Company and worked on the construction of the present M21 highway. He was also a retired employee of the American Auto Felt Corporation in Lyons and its predecessors and had worked at the Ypsilanti Reed Furniture Company. He retired in 1965. A son, Harry Hopkins, preceded him in death in 1967. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Miriam Hallett of Portland; two grandchildren; two brothers, John of Lyons and Nathaniel of Ionia; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Dumon of Big Rapids and Mrs. Ford Shoen of Lyons. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Hull Memorial chapel in Muir. Interment will be at the Lyons cemetery.
