Hopkins, 79 of Snowflake, Ariz., died Feb. 11, 2011. He was born to the late James and Velma (Etson) Hopkins in Lyons. He graduated from Lyons High School 1949, where he played baseball and basketball, and to the very last, he was an avid sports fan. After graduation, he went into full-time farming with his father. Jim was also a past member of the Lyons Masonic Lodge. Jim never lost his love for the outdoors and wide open spaces where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jim married Caroline Stowell in 1954, where they lived together in Lyons before relocating to Arizona in 1967. Jim worked for Motorola until his retirement in 1995. At this time, Caroline and Jim moved to Snowflake. Jim was a warm-hearted, friendly soul, the best of husbands and a loving father and grandfather and will be missed beyond words. Jim is survived by his lovely wife, Caroline of 56 years; and five children, Debra Kowal of Chandler; Kellie Dickson of Pinetop; Andrew (Jing) of Mesa; William of Snowflake and Jeffrey of Mesa. He also is survived by nine grandchildren: Travis (Jessi); Megan; Bridgette; Shelby; John; Brandon; Mark; Jennifer; Ashley and four great grandchildren (Grayson). He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, niece, nephew and an unforgettable son-in-law. Nor services are planned as per his wishes. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
