Hopkins, 54, of Fenwick, passed away at home under Hospice care in the early hours of March 18, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lansing on June 13, 1955, to Albert L. Ricks and Hazel King. She met and married Gary S. Hopkins and he survives. She graduated from Portland area schools and worked for many years in the human service professions, most recently employed by Hope Network in Lowell. Bonnie had a great sense of humor, a big heart and was loved by her family and friends. She had an affinity for all dogs, especially her pugs. Bonnie was one of those ladies who loved to wear hats and looked great in them. She was passionate about her faith and was a founding member of Joy Fellowship Church in Crystal. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her dear children Gary (Shelley) Hopkins of Coral, Tammi (Dan Hall) Zambrano of Ionia, Candi Bussell of Ionia, Christopher Hopkins of Grand Rapids, and special “son” Duane Kerkstra of Belding; grandchildren Sarah, Kevin, Trenton, Taylor, Kayla, Travis and McKenna; sisters Kimberly Getts of California, Jan Brandt and Sharon Brandt; special friends Murlene Carter, Sheryl Hobe, and Ken Harris; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her birth parents and the loving couple who raised and cared for her, Ford and Dorothy Trusdell. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge St., Belding. The Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 22, at Verdun Family Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Dalton of Joy Fellowship Church officiating. Visitation will also precede the service on Monday beginning at noon. Interment will take place at Easton Cemetery followed by a luncheon at Belding American Legion Hall (Corner of Broas and Congress) and Memorial contributions in her name are recommended to the American Cancer Society.
