Miss Permelia Hopkins, 85, passed away Sunday, August 19 at Belding hospital. The daughter of Charles and Arminta Hopkins, she was born July 21, 1871 in Handy township, Livingston county near Fowlerville and came with her parents to this city in 1893. She was a seamstress for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for 63 years, the longest membership of any of its members, active in its auxiliary societies and she was treasurer of the Sunday school for over 40 years. She had been in a wheel chair for several years but lived alone at 111 E. Congress street. Her health had been failing over a period of years but she still lived by herself and did much of her housework. Her sister Lottie, who formerly lived with her passed away several years ago. Her only survivors are a niece, Mrs. Henrietta French and a grand nephew, Robert French of Ionia and cousins. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 2:00 o’clock at the Fitzjohn Funeral Home with her pastor, Rev. Frank Gillett officiating and burial was in the family lot in River Ridge cemetery.
