July 30, 2013 BELDING- Mearl P. "Junior" Hopkins, 57, of Greenville, died Saturday, July 27, 2013, at his home following a lengthy illness. The son of Mearl P. Sr. and Betty Lou (Hawley) Hopkins, he was born Dec. 20, 1956, in Belding. Mearl graduated from Belding High School. He married Carol Ruedigar on Sept. 9, 1989, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oakley. She preceded him in death on March 10, 2013, after 23 years of marriage. Mearl was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Rockford, and he enjoyed fishing and traveling with Carol, attending family reunions, and especially loved spending time with his family. In his younger days, he loved to paint, and was an "inventor", always planning something. Mearl devoted the last two years of his life caring for his wife until her death. Surviving are one daughter and one son, Teresa (Jeremy Boven) Hopkins and Christopher (Jenny) Hopkins; eight grandchildren, Libby, Clayton, Casey, Haileigh, Kamber, Madison, Hayden and Chase Hopkins; and one great-grandchild, Hunter. Also surviving are four sisters, Dianne (George) Anderson, Deborah Hesselink, Carolyn (Carl) DeVdries, Carol Steggerda; his mother-in-law, Irene Ruediger; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Paula (Harold) Cooper, Lorraine (Kenneth) Goward, Sr., Deborah Bunker, and brother-in-law, David (Pamela) Ruediger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol and his parents. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 4610 Belding Road, NE, Rockford, with the Rev. Tim Gauger officiating. Visitation will be held at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today and at the church on Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m. Private family burial will be held at Brant Cemetery, Brant.
