September 15, 1978 HELEN EMELIA HOPKINS LYONS- Helen Emelia Hopkins, 72, of 228 Irish St., died Thursday at Ionia County Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was born November 14, 1905 in Montcalm county the daughter of Benjamin and Mae Murphy. She attended McBride Schools and married Bernard Liscombe in 1922. He preceded her in death in 1950. She married John Hopkins in July 1952. She was the last telephone operator for the Union Telephone company in Muir and retired from Ionia Manor and the Muir Convalescent home. Mrs. Hopkins was a member of Evergreen Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Lyons; the Muir Presbyterian Church and Ladies Society and a Charter member of the Golden Years Senior Citizens club of Muir. Survivors include her husband, John; one son, Gary Liscombe of Muir; three daughters, Mrs.Virginia Jones of Florida and Mrs.Nancy Wohlscheid of Grand Ledge; one sister Lidia Campbell of Elsie; 14 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. from Muir Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark Matter officiating. Burial in Balcom Cemetery. Additional Comments: Balcom Cem.
