Portland Library Scrapbook - July 1892

                         CARVED OUT A HOME

Reuben Hopkins, who cut his way through the woods to locate his late home near 
the Knox school house, died last Friday night at the age of 79 years.

The funeral services were held in the grove near his house, the M.E.choir 
furnishing music and Rev. D.E.Millard offering consolation to the mourners.

He located in this vicinity in 1836, Two daughters, Mrs. Eri Kenyon and Mrs.L. 
Redfield, survive him.

Mr. Hopkins was well liked by all, and passed away at peace with the world.
