Hopkins, 81, of Route 3, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock in Lowell. He was born in Ionia county February 20, 1873, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Hopkins. In 1895 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Philippines and had two subsequent enlistments. He was a musician and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the Grand River Valley post at Saranac. He is survived by two sons, Donald of Detroit, and Robert of Japan; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Farrell of Easton township and Mrs. Herbert Chamberlain of Battle Creek and his stepmother, Mrs. Christina Hopkins of Battle Creek. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Stone- Kauffman funeral home with the Rev. Fr. Roger J. Bunday officiating. Interment will be at Easton cemetery.
