The Ionia Sentinel, Thursday, May 9, 1895
Alvason Hopkins, who has been a resident of Portland continuously since 1836, 
died on Wednesday May 1 at the age of 79.  He was formerly a man of 
considerable property, but of late has had little but his pension to support 
him.  His wife and children all died before him.  His brothers Warren and 
William B. Hopkins are still alive.  His funeral took place on Friday 
afternoon in Portland.
