Hoppes, 66, of Portland died April 30, 1995. Mr. Hoppes was born in Portland Oct. 28, 1928, the son of Leo and Philomena (Huhn) Hoppes. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict and receiving the Bronze Star, and a member of the Portland VFW Post #4090, the American Legion Dale Hyland Post #129, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Survivors include two daughters, Roxanne Burnham of Portland and Denise Hoppes of Lansing; three sons, Michael, Patrick (Dora), and Luke, all of Portland; seven grandchildren, Christina, Emily, and Melissa Burnham, and Marcella, Travis, Heidi, and Eric Hoppes, six brothers, Thomas (Jill) of Lyons, and Leon (Geraldine), Richard (Carol), James (Sharon), Eugene (Alice), and Lawrence (Mary Jane), all of Portland; and three sisters, Virginia (Oscar) Townsend of Eaton Rapids, Alice Kelly of Portland, and Colleen (Bill) Trierweiler of Portland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, and brother, Gerald. The Rosary was recited May 2 and May 3. Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated May 4 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Larry King officiating. Interment followed at Portland Cemetery. Military services were provided by VFW Post #4090.
