Feb. 2, 2018 JAMES HOPPES, 82 James Louis Hoppes, 82, of Portland, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018. He was born Feb. 21, 1935, the son of Leo and Philomena (Huhn) Hoppes. Jim was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and he owned operated Hoppes Pole Barn for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, he started his "Buck Barn" in 1967 that served as a gathering place for many during hunting season. Jim enjoyed various fishing trips to Alaska with friends, Ron Rock and Bill Shattuck. He often spent his free time playing cards, going to the casino, and he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. Preceding Jim in death are his parents, infant son, James Leroy; son-in-law, Herb Platte; granddaughter, Amber Rose Platte; siblings Virginia Townsend, Colleen Trierweiler, Dick (Carol) Hoppes, Stanley (Joan) Hoppes, Leon (Geraldine) Hoppes, and Jerry Hoppes. Surviving Jim are his beloved wife of 62 years, Sharon; children, Toni (Chuck) Miller, Craig Hoppes, Joe (Marian) Hoppes, Bonnie (Bob) Rockey, Michelle (David) Nurenberg, Kirk (Michele) Hoppes, Victor Hoppes, Becky (Scott) Hodge, Kristina (Dan) Platte; 28 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; siblings, Alice Kelly, Joe (Alice) Hoppes, Larry (DeeDee) Hoppes, and Tom (Jill) Hoppes; and in-laws, Bill Trierweiler, Mary Hoppes, and Oscar Townsend. The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Darrel Kempf at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4-6 p.m. and on Sunday from 12-3 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland.
