Hoppes, of Portland, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother passed away on December 26, 2006 at the age of 98. She was born on February 18, 1908 in Westphalia, Michigan, the daughter of Jacob and Theresa (Zimmer) Barker. She married Mathias Hoppes on June 17, 1929. He preceded her in death on December 28, 1975. They made their home in Portland all their married life. Her family was the love of her life. She is survived by her children Barbara (Charles) Diamond of DeWitt, Elaine Dorin of Grand Ledge, Joan (Gerald) Blundy of Ionia and Robert (Carmen) Hoppes of Portland. Also 15 Grandchildren, Cheryl (Edward) Timpf, Dianne Diamond, Michael Diamond, Debbrah (Tim) Marsh, Nita (Gregg) Gilbert, Laurie (Duane) Haring, Lisa Lundquist, Daniel (Carol) Blundy, David (Carol) Blundy, DeeAnn (Jeffrey) Cummings, Gary (Barb) Hoppes, Jeffrey Hoppes, Jennifer (Terry) Frewen, Brad (Kim) Hoppes, Brent (Mandie) Hoppes. 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lorraine Barker and Loretta Kowalk, brothers, Roman and Frederick Barker and son-in- law, Kenneth Dorin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2006 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland with Rev. Larry King presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service will be said at 8 p.m., Thursday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to either Hazel Findley Country Manor or to St. Patrick's Library.
