George was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Ionia County, the son of George Lynn and Alberta (Frost) Hoppough. He married Marilyn “Flip” Chapin on March 7, 1952 in Ionia. Mr. Hoppough was a veteran of the Korean War. He graduated from Lakewood Adult High School in 1983. He was employed by various places, including Fred’s Food Centre, Runciman Mills, City of Ionia, Wrights and Marhofer’s Slaughterhouse, and Balcom Cemetery as a caretaker. After retiring in 1992, he was the farm master at the Farmer’s Market in Downtown Ionia, where he was known for his sweet corn. He loved fishing and hunting. George was preceded in death by his parents; step father Calvin Miller; brother Robert Hoppough; sister Bonnie Slater; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Slater and Ray Read. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Marilyn; three sons, George L. Hoppough, David (Gwen) Hoppough and James (Sandi) Hoppough, all of Ionia; two daughters, Sharon Ward and Karen (Richard Read) Hoppough, both of Ionia; grandchildren Jodi (Kevin Aldrich) Snyder, Erin (Donald) Barrett, Shannon (LeRoy) King, Jamie Wagner, Heather Hoppough, Amy (Cody) Hoppough and Joshua Hoppough; seven step- grandchildren; great grandchildren, Darren Shyer, Kaylynn Fyan, Baby King and Baby Barrett; 8 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Dawn Read of Ionia; brother Jerry (Pat) Hoppough of Leroy; sister-in-law, Marlene Hoppough of Evart; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Cremation has taken place. There will be no service, per Mr. Hoppough’s request. A luncheon is planned in George’s honor at the Ionia Moose Lodge for family and friends at 1 p.m. Wed., April 20, 2005. Complete arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family, in memory of Mr. George Guy Hoppough.
