Jan. 25, 2013 Mark Wilbur Hoppough, 91, of Ionia and formerly a resident of Greenville, peacefully passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Bishop Hills in Rockford, Mich. Mark was born on Feb. 19, 1921 in Ionia, the son of Eugene and Olive (Wilbur) Hoppough. He grew up in Orleans and graduated from Ionia High School where he participated in band and track. In his teens, he began learning his life-long trade as an electrician with guidance from his step-father, George Dean. Mark was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Mark proudly served in the Army during World War II and was a life member of the American Legion. He was honored to serve as Commander of Post 101 in Greenville during the 1970’s. He was also active in the Saranac Legion and was a member of the Elk’s in Ionia and past member of the Lion’s Club in Greenville. Mark is survived by his son John (Susan) Hoppough of Greenville, daughter Linda Rork of Phoenix, Ariz., granddaughters Sarah (Hoppough) and Christopher Maurice of Grand Rapids, Anne (Hoppough) and Michael Wilterink of Greenville and Sherry (Rork) and Jose Reyes of Phoenix, Ariz., and grandsons David and Nark Rork both of Phoenix, Ariz. He is survived by his great grandchildren, Norah and Maeve Maurice, Mason Wilterink and Alesandra Reyes. Mark is survived by two nieces, Sylvia Beckerman of Cleveland, Ohio and Gail (David) Hazen of Whitefish, Mont. Services for Mark are 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 with full Military Services held at the Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville by the American Legion Post #101, Greenville. Visitation preceding from 1 to 2 p.m. and the Rev. Dr. Jerold T. Jones, of the First Congregational Church, officiating. Memorial contributions for Mark may be made to Faith Hospice of Kent County, American Legion Post 101 or the First Congregational Church of Greenville.
