While a resident of this community she was very active in the organization, as well as in the Eastern Star. She was the widow of Hozial Horner, who died 16 years ago. Fidelia Cronkrite was born on the farm now owned by Harmon brothers, west of the Compton schoolhouse, in Danby, 85 years ago. When she was 17 she married Mr. Horner, whose first wife was her sister, bringing up three daughters, Minnie, Annette and Clara, and bestowing upon them the same motherly affection as though they were her own. Annette died many years ago. Minnie, who became the wife of George Doolittle, died three years ago. Clara, now Mrs. Holderman, resides in Walla Walla, Wash. To this union three sons were born, Benjamin, Arthur and Thomas. Benjamin’s death occurred six months ago. Both Arthur and Thomas live in Lansing, the latter at home. His kindly ministrations to his mother in her declining years did much toward prolonging her life. Her last illness was of but a few days duration. Charles Cronkrite, of Danby is the last survivor of the immediate family of Cronkrites, Danby pioneers. The Horners, after several years in Danby, moved to Portland and latterly became residents of Lansing. Services were held at a funeral home in that city Sunday afternoon, Rev. John H. Stewart officiating and the remains were brought to Danby cemetery, for burial on the family lot. Members of the W.R.C. attended the funeral in a body.
