Mrs. Horrocks, 58, who lived at 5471 Riverside drive, Lyons, was owner and operator of the Clark’s service station on Dexter street in Ionia. He was also an active member of the Ionia Moose lodge. Horrocks served with the army during World War II in the Pacific theater of conflict. A past commander of the Ionia post of the American Legion he was chairman representative of the Wolverine Boy’s State yearly and was instrumental in many boys from the Ionia area attending. Many young people of the Ionia and Muir and Lyons areas will best remember Mr. Horrocks as promoter of the Tronviere’s? drum and bugle corps. He traveled with the bugle corps and its music director, Andrew MacFarland many miles several summers as bus driver for the parade performances during the summer. He was also instrumental in the Legion buying two transportation buses for the group. Horrocks could always be counted on to assist in various Memorial Day services in the Ionia area, including the one given on the courthouse steps in Ionia. He also assisted the late Mrs. Mildred Gardner with the Memorial Day services in Lyons bringing marching members of the Legion for the parades. Through Horrock’s efforts the American legion, Girard Horrocks post has bingo games weekly to support the local activities of the post. In the past Otto Horrocks was first in line to make arrangements for proper memorial funeral services for deceased war veterans. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Hull Memorial chapel in Muir. ---- Otto John Horrocks, 58, of 5741 Riverside drive, Lyons, died suddenly at Ionia County Memorial hospital. Dr. Charles Balck, state pathologist, ruled death due to a heart condition complicated by pneumonia. Born October ?, 1916, in Evergreen county he was the son of Thomas and Beulah Horrocks. He attended the grade and high schools in Ionia and was a member of the Ionia national guard. After high school he farmed in the Ionia area and was employed by the Pere Marquette Railroad. July of 1937 he was married in Ionia to Eleanore Lindsey. He entered the army in April of 1941 and served with the army corps of engineers in Germany and the Philippines. He received his discharge in January of 1946. He was a village employee of Lyons and operated his own bottled gas service and the past eight years owned and operated the Clark service station on Dexter in Ionia. He was active in many American Legion activities, and also the Moose lodge. He was a bowler and sponsored three bowling teams. He was a member of the Ionia and Montcalm district Forty and Eight a social club of the American Legion and was also on the bi-centennial county committee. Among his survivors are his wife, Eleanore, three sons, Kenneth of Alliance, Neb., Lindsey of Lyons and James at home; five daughters, Mrs. Dixie Muawa? of Lyons, Mrs. Shirley Houghton, Mrs. Kathy Seth and Mrs. Geraldine Christensen of Ionia and Gina Jo Horrocks at home; sister, Mrs. Eric Hewitt of Succex?, England, 13 grandchildren. Also surviving are three step-sisters, Mrs. Dana Sweet of Greenville, Mrs. Lucille Myers of Lyons and Mrs. Bernice Rhodes of South Haven; two half brothers, Frances Otto of Lachine and Keith Otto of Edmore, two half sisters, Mrs. Merritt Johnson of Athens and Mrs. Larry Dyer of Greenville. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Lyons United Methodist church. Rev. Richard Strait will officiate and interment will be at the Lyons cemetery. Until noon Sunday Mr. Horrocks will be at the Hull Memorial chapel in Muir. A memorial has been established for the American Legion activities funds.
