Ionia Sentinel Standard, 13 Nov 1981

Erma Martin Horrocks, 87, of Onaway, died Thursday morning at Cheboygan.  She
was born Sept. 10, 1894 in Evergreen Township of Montcalm County, the daughter
of Irwin Martin and Jenny Truesdell Martin.  She married Alfred Van Horrocks in
1915.  He preceded her in death in 1949.

She was graduated from Ionia High School and Ionia County Normal School.  She
taught school in three country schools in the area before her marriage.  They
moved to Onaway in 1936.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and
the Methodist Church in Onaway.

Survivors include four sons, Alfred, of Cheboygan, Norris and Nilo of Onaway,
and Ralph of Ionia; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  One son,
Terry, died in 1961.

Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Onaway Methodist Church.  Burial
will be in South Ellis Township Cemetery.
