The chapters of the book that made up the life of Ross were about a man who made friends with and gained the respect of those whose lives he touched. His skills were many; from making a fine bottle of wine to carving a piece of wood into a bird that seemed to come alive. His hand-carved Santas were the highlight of our Christmases. We will miss his sense of humor and the sly smile that preceded the zinger he would lay on us. We will remember him for his talent for growing things be it his weed free garden or his beautiful yard. We will remember his love for books and the knowledge he gained from reading. Ross loved being outdoors whether taking a good walk or enjoying a game of golf. We are proud of his service in the Army Air Corps during World War II. His retirement from the MTU as Shift Supervisor allowed him the time to pursue his many interests and his job became doing things for his family, community and church. He left behind his second wife Billie; sisters Dorothy Leonard and Jean (Bernard) Kuhns; daughter Linda Connell, son in law Danny Earl, his step children Carole Murray, Doug (Peggy) Hoort, Dave (Cathy) Hoort, Dan Hoort; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Our tears are eased by the knowledge of the family who eagerly awaited his arrival in heaven; his first wife Dorothy, his daughter Susie, and his grand daughter Betsy. Good bye husband, dad, grandpa, friend; it was heaven on earth with you. Visitation with Ross' family will be held at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa on Thursday, June 22, 2006 from 6 to 9 p.m.. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Ionia at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 23. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia Community Library.
