Lake Odessa Wave-Fri. September 30, 1904

Mrs. Martha Houghton an old resident of Woodland township, died at her farm on 
Wednesday morning, Sept. 28th, after a long illness, induced principally by old 
age. She fractured a limb some time ago, and since that time has been on a 
gradual decline.The funeral was held from the Tamarack Church on Thursday, and 
her remains interred in Lakeside cemetery. The funeral being conducted by Rev. 
Lash of Woodbury.

Mrs.Houghton's maiden name was Martha Doty, and she was born in Tompkins county, 
New York, October 18, 1855. She moved to Michigan with her parents many years 
ago, and they first settled on a farm where Lakeside cemetery now stands. She 
was married to Loren Houghton in 1855, and from this union there remains but two 
sons and a daughter, to mourn the loss of the mother and father, the latter 
dying some time ago.
