Houserman, 74, of Ionia died Saturday, April 20, 1996 at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center in East Grand Rapids. He was born Oct. 3, 1921 in Saranac, the son of Charles and Eva (Cutler) Houserman and was educated in Saranac Schools. He moved to Ionia in 1941 and lived here ever since. He married Joyce Nemetz July 31, 1943 in Ionia and entered the U.S. Army during World War II on Oct. 8, 1943. He served in the European Theater receiving numerous medals including five Bronze Stars and was discharged Dec 12, 1946. He worked at Brown Corp for 22 years, retiring in 1984 when he pursued his hobbies of woodworking and his family. He was active in the United Furniture Workers of America Union and was the voluteer chairman for many years at the Auto Body Workers Credit Union Credit Committee. He was very active in veterans affairs, being a life member of the V.F.W., was a past County Council Commander, Ionia Post Commander from 1978-1979 and All State Post Committee from 1979-1980. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Ernest and one grandson, Christopher. Funeral arrangements by Cook Funeral Home. Interment with Military Rites at Woodard Lake Cemetery.
