Houserman, 71, died Monday, June 23, at 12:30 p.m. at the home of his son, Donald, of rural route, Ionia, after a long illness. He was born July 29, 1875, in Germany and came to this country in 1885. He married Ann Kaden in 1901 in Boyne City. They moved to Saranac in 1913 where he ran a grocery and meat market until 1934 when he sold it to Albert Steinke. His wife died in 1936. He was a member of the Saranac I.O.O.F. lodge. Surviving him are three sons, Carl of Saranac, Claude of Grand Rapids, and Donald of Ionia; one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Engel of Ypsilanti; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Compton of Saranac and Mrs. Carrie Geib of Grand Rapids; one half sister, Mrs. Lizzie Compton of Smyrna; three half brothers, John Houserman of Lake Odessa and Henry and Albert Houserman of Belding. Services will be held Thursday, June 26, at 2 p.m. from the Morris Funeral home in Saranac with the Rev. E. H. Humphrey officiating. Interment will be in Saranac cemetery.
