Howard will be Friday at 3 pm at Boynton funeral home. Rev. Lester Bailey will officiate and burial will be in Balcom cemetery. Perry Howard, 83, of 1420 West Tuttle road, Berlin township, died at an Ionia convalescent home Tuesday morning after being a patient there the past six weeks. He was born in Berlin township at his present home, on March 3, 1885. He was a graduate of Ionia high school and received a degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1908. In 1909 he was married to Edith Thwaites in Ann Arbor. He worked for private industry in Texas, Tennessee, Washington state and New Jersey before going to work for the federal government where he remained 40 years until retirement in 1957, when he moved to his home on Tuttle road. He was a member of First United Methodist church and former member of Ionia Country club and was an ardent golfer for many years. Surviving are his wife Edith, three daughters, Mrs. Helen Mannakee of Colusa, Calif., Mrs. Elizabeth Pattison of Hillsdale, Mrs. Louise James of Oneonta, N.Y.; Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Harriet Howard of Ionia, and Mrs. Clara Harper of Middleville; and nieces and nephews. A memorial has been established for First United Methodist church. Family will be at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 pm.
