Born at Six Likes April 2, 1891, he was the son of Albert C. and Nellie Beam Howard. He came as a child to the Ionia area where he spent most of his life. He attended the Muir schools. He was with the U.S. infantry during World War I, and later worked for the Pere Marquette and Grand Trunk railroads as a clerk. He was owner and operator of a cigar store and pool room at the corner of Kidd and Main and also owner and operator of a gas station and grocery at the corner of M21 and Bellamy road which he sold in 1942. He then worked for General Motors, retiring in 1950. After retirement he was a part-time carpenter. He was married in 1915 to Mae Emmons and she died in October 1972. Surviving are a son, Richard Howard of Ionia; daughter Mrs. Agnes Hall of Belding; four grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, Harry Howard of St. Johns and M. Ray Howard of Greenville. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Myers-Roetman funeral home. Rev. George Chafee of Zion United Methodist church will officiate and interment will be at Easton cemetery.
