Howard, for many years head of the Belding Bros. & Co. silk mills in this city. For a week prior to her passing Mrs. Howard had been cared for at a convalescent home in Ionia and it was there that death came to her. Born at Amherst, Mass., on January 22, 1855, she grew up there and on November 11, 1875 she was united in marriage to Mr. Howard, who was at the time affiliated with the Belding silk interests in the east. In 1890, when the firm’s local interests were undergoing expansion, Mrs. Howard came with her husband and two children to this city, where he was in charge of the several silk mills then owned by the Belding interests. Mr. Howard passed away 19 years ago and since that time Mrs. Howard had continued to live in the family home at 322 Hall St., being cared for by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Rose Howard. Surviving are a son, Stanley, in the west, and a grandson, Robert, in Arizona. A daughter, Mabel, died 25 years ago. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Fitzjohn Funeral Home with Rev. J. Ray Gillham, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating and burial was in River Ridge cemetery beside the bodies of her husband and the daughter, Mabel.
