Sentinel-Standard - Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1975

Mrs. Hazel B. Howard, 79, died august 25 at Lansing general hospital.

Born in Orleans, February 27, 1896, she was the daughter of Frank E. and Sara 
Musselman Bradford.

She was married to Fred. S. Howard in Ionia November 26, 1917, and he died 
December 6, 1936.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard owned and operated Howards Dry Cleaners on Main street in 
Ionia for many years.. Mrs. Howard was at tone time vocalist with the band 
concerts in the park near the court house, choir director of her church, 
participating in the musical operettas performed in the armory, and singing at 
many social functions held in Ionia and the surrounding area.

Mrs. Howard left Ionia in 1940 moving first to Grand Rapids and then to 
Muskegon where she was associated in business with Robert Kennedy, tax 
accountant.

In 1959 she moved to Florida and was a self employed accountant until her 
illness forced her retirement. She returned to Michigan in April of 1975.

While in Ionia, Mrs. Howard was a member of the Ionia Country club, Daughters 
of the American Revolution, American Business Women's Association, American 
Legion auxiliary, Literary club and First United Methodist church. 

she is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Mary Margaret Sanborn of Muskegon and 
Mrs. Sally Anne McCarthy of Okemos; five grandchildren. Services were August 
27, in Muskegon. Rev. Floyd J. Fitch, formerly of Ionia Baptist church 
officiated and interment was in Easton cemetery, Ionia county, August 28.
