Howard, 52, of 2509 North Harwood road suffered a fatal heart attack at his residence late Monday afternoon and was pronounced dead on arrival at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Berlin township, March 7, 1920, the son of Frederic and Belle Smith Howard. He attended and graduated from Ionia high school in the class of 1938 and graduated from Michigan State University in a two years agricultural short course in 1940 and worked on the Carl Allie Stuart farm near Saranac until 1945. He was married to Dorothy Aldrich June 9, 1945 in Berlin Center church. They made their home on West Tuttle Road where he was engaged as a self-employed farmer and lived there until moving into their new home on Harwood in 1970. He retired from active farming a few years ago. He was a member of LeValley Methodist church and a committeeman for troop 85 of Boy Scouts and has been active several years in both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, one son, Keith at home; one sister, Ruth Howard of Kalamazoo. Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock from LeValley Methodist church with the Rev. Donald Fry officiating. Interment will be in Balcom cemetery. The family will meet friends and relatives at Leddick Funeral home Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for LeValley Methodist church or Troop 85 of Boy Scouts.
