Howard, 74, died Saturday night at 10 o’clock at his home in Berlin township. He had been ill since August 1951. He was born in his present home September 1, 1879, the son of William H. and Helen Butler Howard. He was a graduate of Ionia high school and was graduated from Michigan State College in 1905, living his entire life in Berlin township. August 2, 1916 he was married to Belle Smith of Cedar Springs who died in August 1932. Mr. Howard was a member of the Ionia County Farm Bureau, Holstein-Freisian society and a former member of the Berlin grange. Surviving are one son, Russell of Berlin township one daughter Miss Ruth Howard of Kalamazoo; one brother, Perry Howard of Joliet, Ill; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Harper of Middleville, Miss Janetta Howard and Miss Harriet Howard at the family home. One son, Maurice, was killed in action in World War II, in 1944. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at Boynton funeral home with the Rev. Heath Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Balcom cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Monday evening from 7 to 9 o’clock. Howard, who died Saturday, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at Boynton funeral home with the Rev. Heath Goodwin officiating assisted by Mr. Howard’s nephew, the Rev. Ralph Harper of Yale. Pallbearers were Howard Sprague, Dale Phillips, Floyd Hampshire, Melvin Larson, Russell Sible and Julius Funk. Interment was in the family lot at Balcom cemetery. Attending the services from away were Miss Ruth Howard of Kalamazoo; Mrs. Clara Harper, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Finkbeiner, Mrs. John Sinclair and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Finkbeiner of Middleville; Mrs. Vern Dodge and Mrs. Burke Porter of Grand Rapids; Mrs. Elizabeth Secker of Hillsdale; Mr. and Mrs. John Kitchen of Bay City; Mr. and Mrs. Perry Howard of Joliet, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond James of Plattsburg, N.Y.; the Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Harper, Miss Clarice and Miss Margaret Harper of Yale; Mr. and Mrs. William Edinger of Adrian, and Lyle Harper of Tecumseh.
