Ruth E. Converse Howe, 92, of Belding, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at 
her home in Belding. Ruth was born at 209 Broas St. in Belding on May 19, 
1912, daughter of Frank Elmer and Annie Phoebe Troop Converse. 

Ruth graduated from Belding High School class of 1930 and attended Davenport 
College the next year. On September 12, 1933 Ruth married Robert Howe of 
Orleans. Robert died on June 10, 1991. At her choice at age six Ruth joined 
the Belding United Methodist Church in Belding in 1918, making her the oldest 
living member of the church. She served many years as Sunday school teacher. 
She was in charge of cradle roll in the 1940's and was also on the Pastoral 
Relations Board and memorial committee. She was a member of the Belding 
Community Development board and served on the election board for about twenty 
years. Ruth was a lover of animals. After the passing of her son, Bobby, Ruth 
and Robert reached out to comfort other families throughout Michigan with the 
loss of their children.

Ruth is survived by grandson, Brian Hansen of Belding; granddaughter, Tammy 
Miller and her special friend James Chaffin of White Oak, TX.; great 
grandchildren, Tasha Miller of Belding, Cody Miller of Riverdale, Stormee 
Stanley of Evart, Emilee Denman of Orleans; and godson, Dr. Robert Rogers.  
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Howe; daughter, 
Carol Ann Wahlse, on January 3. 2004; son, Bobby Howe, on June 27, 1950.

Visitations for Ruth are Thursday, July 8, 2004 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the 
Huffman-Brigham Funeral Chapel in Belding. There will be service of 
remembrance for Ruth announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be 
made to the Belding United Methodist Church.
