He had been in poor health the last year but had been seriously ill for several months. He was born at Chesterfield, January 1, 1862, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Howk, but he has lived in Ionia county nearly all of his life and all but one year since his marriage on the same farm. He was married to Miss Jennie Case of Ionia township January 1, 1883 and for the past five years they have resided in North Plains township. Mr. Howk was among the early members of the North Plains church and had always been a faithful worker for the interests of the church. He was also a member of the North Plains Arbor of Gleaners and of the Maccabees. Mr. and Mrs. Howk observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1933 with a celebration at the North Plains church. Surviving are the widow, two children at home, Grace and Jay Howk, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held from the north Plains Union Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. Paul L. Stewart, pastor of the Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be at North Plains cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 o’clock until the time of the service Thursday afternoon.
