All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sandy Heintzelman sheintz@iserv.net May 21, 2015, 10:55 am Belding Banner, 9 Mar 1899 Elsie Ann Handy was born in West Bloomfield, Ontario county, N.Y., October 9, 1816, and afterwards moved with her parents to Hume, Alleghany Co., N.Y., where in 1834 she was married to Daniel Hoyt. In 1838 they moved to Michigan, having to travel by boat from Buffalo to Detroit and the rest of the way to Ionia county in a wagon. In 1839 they bought eighty acres of land from the government in Orleans and settled upon it where they lived until their death. Mr. Hoyt died March 4, 1895, and Mrs. Hoyt died February 15, 1899. Mrs. Hoyt was converted in youth and has lived to exemplify the christian faith and train up her children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. She was the mother of ten children, eight of whom grew to maturity. Six are still living: Lucy M. King of Orleans, Almira E. Face of Orleans, Marietta E. Morton of Riverton, Mason county, Mich., Sylvia S. Colton of Ashland, Oregon, Quincy U. Hoyt of Ludington, and Geo. H. Hoyt of Orleans. Besides these she leaves 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren to mourn her loss.
