OBITUARY

Mary Louise Gates was born April 25, 1834 in the state of New York and at her 
death Dec. 29th was 74 year, 8 months and 4 days old.

She moved with her parents at an early age to Grange Co.,Ohio When fourteen 
years of age she commenced teaching school continuing in that vocation for 
eleven years, when March 20th 1856 she was united in marriage to John 
C.Hubbard.this newly married couple in the month of May, following came to 
Berlin, Ionia Co. where they made a home. Mrs.Hubbard has lived in that town 
most of the time during the past nearly half century.

The union results n the bringing up of a family of five children, there sons and 
two daughters; Harry L.Hubbard of Berlin, John S. of Onaway, Presque Isle 
county; Sydney of Indian River, Cheboygan County; Mrs.C.W. Mickle of Lansing and 
Mrs.C.P. Cook of Sebewa, fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also 
remain to mourn the loss of mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

For many years Mrs.Hubbard was an earnest and zealous advocate of Spiritualism 
and spent some time teaching that belief. About eighteen years ago, seeing 
through the flimsy veil that was wrapped about its mysteries, she was brought to 
see something more real and tangible in Christ and the Church, she renounced the 
whole thing and accepted Jesus as her Savior. She became an active member of the 
M.E. Church of Berlin of which she was a member at her death -
