Hughson was born Aug. 26, 1843 at Brockport, Monroe county, N.Y., the eldest child of Frederick and Wealthy Hughson moving with his parents to Michigan at the age of 3 years, settling on a farm in South Boston, being early pioneers of Boston township, where he lived nearly all of his life. He was one of the early educators of the county attending the State Normal at Ypsilanti, and being a very successful teacher and having the office of school inspector and examiner for many years. He was married November 1, 1873 to Miss Agnes B. Todd, who died June 1, 1878, leaving two children. Elizabeth and Ray, to whom he gave the loving care of both father and mother. On March 17, 1880, he was married to Miss Dora Ware, who died August 24, 1887, one child, Frederick J. Hughson, was born to this union. On November 6, 1889, he was united in marriage to Miss Laura Kinyon. Two children were born to this union, Agnes M. and Edgar Harrison. For the last seven years he has lived at Gladwin, Mich., where he passed away March 12, 1922 in his 79th year. He was an active member of the Methodist church, and will be remembered by his old friends and neighbors as a public spirited man, a Christian gentleman, a kind and jovial friend, always looking on the bright side. Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn their loss, his daughter, Mrs. E. D. Wisner, of Benton Harbor, Ray Hughson, of Gladwin, Fred Hughson of Lansing, Mrs. Clarence Trowbridge and Harrison Hughson of Clarksville, twelve grandchildren and other relatives and friends. His last years have been spent in loving care of his invalid wife for whom he was caring when the summons came. Truly it may be said of him, a good man has gone to his reward. The funeral was held in Lowell at Yeiter’s Chapel Friday morning, March 17, Rev. Harris, officiating, singing by Mr. Sterkins accompanied by Mrs. McNaughton. He was laid to rest in the South Boston cemetery. Relatives and friends were in attendance from Gladwin, Benton Harbor, Lansing, Clarksville, South Boston and Lowell.
