Huhn, 70, of Hubbardston, passed away peacefully and very unexpectedly on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at Spectrum health Butterworth in Grand Rapids with her family at her side. Funeral services for Rita will be held at 11a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Tom Thompson officiating. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Rita was born April 22, 1941 in Hubbardston, the daughter of Harold and Winnifred (Roach) Cunningham. A 1960 graduate of St. John the Baptist High School, Rita lived her entire life in Hubbardston and was one of the village’s biggest supporters. Rita married Robert L. Huhn on April 23, 1960 in Hubbardston at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and enjoyed 51 years together. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and served the parish for several years on the finance committee. Rita organized the Hubbardston Memorial Day parade for several years. She loved to travel and had visited her beloved Ireland twice, even getting Bob to overcome his fear of flying to accompany her on one of the trips. She had been planning a spring trip to Cancun with “the girls” at the time of her death. Ceramics was a hobby of Rita’s for many years and friends and family will cherish those handmade gifts. Camping was also a big part of her life over the years and she had a seasonal spot at Snow Lake Kampground. Rita enjoyed bowling and the friendships and fun that came along with being on a team. Her husband, children, grandchildren and friends meant the world to her. She will be sorely missed and it is hard to imagine life without Rita. Rita is survived by her husband, Bob; four children, Robert (Karen) Huhn of Belding, Mary (Terry) Keiffer of Hubbardston, Kevin Huhn of Muir and Paul Huhn of Chicago, Ill.; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Michael and Ryan Huhn, Danielle and Jenna Schneider, and Calee (Jared) Allen; step-grandchildren, Stephanie (Tommy) Dailey, Daron (Lori) Keiffer, sister Linda Cunningham of Florida; and several sister and brother-in-laws and nieces and nephews. Rita is also survived by her many friends and the numerous children in Hubbardston who knew her as Aunt Rita. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, and her three brothers, Jimmy, Terry and Raymond Cunningham. May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rain fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again… May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
