Leonard retired after 29 years from the Motor Wheel Company Lansing. Leonard was a World War II Veteran and was twice awarded the Good Conduct Medal. While serving under General Patton, Leonard was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart. Leonard is preceded in death by his loving wife, Vada; father Guy Hummel; mother Beatrice Hummel; and brother Clifford Hummel. Leonard is survived by his children, Shirley (William) Morey, Neal (Debbie) Hummel, Leon (Rebecca) Hummel and Karen Hummel, plus several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Congregational Church, 421 Bridge St., Portland. Immediately following the service, Interment with military honors, will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2811 S. State Road/M-66, Ionia and after the interment, we would like to invite family and friends to join us at a luncheon, which will be served at the Ionia Moose Lodge, 869 E. Lincoln/M-21, Ionia, Michigan 4884+ (616) 527- 3554. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to their favorite charity in memory of Leonard.
