Lake O Wave - Friday, Oct. 19, 1906

Mrs. Mary Hummel, familiarly known as "Grandma Hummel" died at the home of her 
daughter, Mrs. Tusing, living in the east part of the village early last Friday 
morning at the ripe old age of 86 years. Ms. Tusing was aroused by a peculiar 
sound in her mother's room and hastened to her bedside. Finding her mother 
critically ill, she at once summoned a doctor and gave her every possible 
attention but all to no avail. The aged lady soon passed away.

Her maiden name was "Rhode" and she was born in Pennsylvania in 1830. She was 
married to Jacob Hummel in 1837. They moved from Pennsylvania to Ohio and then 
from there here about thirty years ago, living on the Hummel farm north of town 
until the death of Mr. Hummel six years ago: since which time she has lived 
with her daughter, Mrs. Tusing.

Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hummel, eight of whom survive her 
yiz- Jacob, John, Reuben, Sidney and Eliza Tusing, all of Lake Odessa, and 
Amanda Shupp of Nashville, Quentiss of Detroit and Peter of Washington. 

The funeral was held from the Cong'l church Sunday afternoon conducted by the 
pastor Rev. Jones. Interment was made in Lakeside cemetery.

We miss thee from thy place:
A shadow o'er our life is cast
We miss the sunshine of thy face.

We miss thy kind and loving hand,
Thy fond and earnest care,
Our home is dark without thee.
We miss thee everywhere.
