Irene (Hunsberger) Klenk, of Ionia, age 92, dear mother, grandmother, great-
grandmother and friend passed away on Nov. 2, 2008

Irene was born in Bangor, Mich. on Aug. 24, 1916 to Hiram and Margaret Cameron. 
She grew up in Grand Rapids, Mich. where she met and married Lyle Hunsberger in 
1939. They had five children: David (Shirley) Hunsberger of Erie, Colo., Sally 
Godin (deceased 1992), Mary (Stanley) Durst of Livermore, Calif., Lee (Barbara) 
Hunsberger of Portland, Mich., Carol Catellier (deceased 1989), and son-in-law 
Roland Catellier of Port Richey, Fla. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren 
and 16 great-grandchildren.

Irene and Lyle moved to Ionia in 1952 where they raised prize-winning Guernsey 
cattle until Lyle’s death in 1972. In 1975, Irene married Gerard Klenk 
(deceased 1992) and is survived by stepson Bill (Gwen) Klenk of Lakeland, Mich.

Irene was active in the First Presbyterian Church in Ionia for 56 years. She 
was an avid quilter. She loved to raise funds for Crop Walk and did the walk 
into her 80’s. She is lovingly remembered for her remarkable patience, good 
humor, energy, endurance and great faith in God. Her generosity and care of 
others were an inspiration. She was a generous longtime supporter of the 
Catellier’s missionary work. She personally cared for her mother, Margaret and 
later her husband, Gerry for years when they became infirm.

A memorial service will be announced in the near future. Interment was at 
Sunset memorial Gardens. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be sent 
to the First Presbyterian Church of Ionia, 125 E. Main St.; Ionia, MI 48846 in 
memory of Irene, Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral
