August 23, 1962 WALTER M. HUNT PASSED AWAY SATURDAY Walter M.Hunt, a well known resident of the local area who suffered from multiple sclerosis since 1948, died Saturday upon admittance to the hospital at Ionia. Walt was Sebewa township treasurer since 1953, until this past spring, when his health forced him to resign. After his resignation was treasurer he served on the township board. Although confined to a wheel chair, he was a full fledged radio "ham" with call letters K 8 A K E, he operated his sender and receiver from a den in his barn as well as from his bedroom on the farm on Goddard road, northeast of Lake Odessa. He will be missed by many who have been in radio contact with him these past years as well as all who knew him here. Walt and his wife Irene had just sold their farm this spring to Phillip Shetterly in the process of remodeling the Ira Curtis home on Fifth Avenue in Lake Odessa which they had recently purchased. He was a member of Sebewa Center Methodist church. Surviving are his wife Irene, two children, Dallas Hunt, East Lansing, and Mrs.Sharon White, Portland; his mother Mrs Herman Hunt of Ionia; one sister Mrs.Wilma Coe of Ionia, and two grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Neller Funeral Home in Portland with burial in East Sebewa cemetery.
