February 18, 1905 Anna Tripp Hunt was born at Burlington, Vermont, June 13, 1820 and died February 18, 1905. She was the last of the old settlers who came to Lyons township prior to 1835. At an early age she moved with her parents to Plattsburg, New York, and later in 1832 to Michigan, settling in Oakland County. Then in 1834 they settled along the banks of Maple River on section two, Lyons township, where the village of Burlington, one of the Wild Cat Towns of an early day, was started. This village was two miles north and west from Pewamo where Grandpa Tripp settled in 1834. Noting remains to show that a person ever lived there but it still goes by the name of Burlington. Mrs. Hunt was a member of the First Methodist Class here and held her membership until her death. For forty-eight years she lived near the village. She had a large circle of friends who are left to miss her. In 1844 she married Nehemiah C. Hunt who died in 1892. Three children were born to this union, Arvilla, Charles N. and Melvina E., two of whom, Charles N. of Crystal and Melvina E. Swindt of Pewamo remain to mourn their loss. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. H. E. Wylie Tuesday, February 21, at her late home.
