Lake Odessa Scrapbook - October 1897

Mrs. Kezia Hunt (Nee Hess) died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.L. Foght, on 
Sunday, October 24, after an illness of eight months.

She was born in the state  of New Jersey in 1822. At the time of her death she 
was seventy five years, five months and twenty four days old.

When but a small child she moved with her parents to New York.

In the Spring of 1848 she was marred to Mr.Hugh Hunt and they moved to Lenawee 
Co, Michigan where they lived about two years.

In 1853 they moved to Odessa Township where she lived until her death.

they were pioneers in Odessa having moved here when the country was quite new. 
They lived on the main road from Nashville to Saranac, which was the principle 
mail route, and being about half way between these two points, their home became 
a general stooping place for both mail carriers and travelers and they were as 
well know to the traveling public as a motel hotel.

To her was born seven children three who died in infancy and four who still 
survive her. The remaining four are George and Frank Hunt, Mrs. M.L. Foght and 
Mrs.L. Culp. She also leaves behind her three aged sisters,Mrs.John Swarthout of 
Odessa, Mrs. Wm. Barrick of Lenawee Co., who was with her during the last three 
weeks of her illness, and Mrs.M.Sanders of Sanilac. Co., and many friends to 
mourn her loss.

She died leaving the assurance behind her that she had gone to be with God.

She was buried from the First Congregational church, Rev. Skentlebury 
officiating, assisted by Rev. Mowers, and was laid to rest in the Lakeside 
Cemetery.
