Don was born and raised in Michigan, settling in his adult life in Saranac, Michigan and lived his last years with his daughter in Charlotte, since 2009. Don was one of the five children born to the late Ernest and Norma Hunter and graduated from Saranac High School. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Alaska. Don retired after 37 years from Smith Industries (formerly Lear Siegler, Inc.) working with Microcircuity. For 47 years, Don was the beloved husband of Mary, who went to be with the Lord in 2008. Don will forever be remembered by his brothers, Wesley (Joan), Douglas (Joyce); and loving sister, Sharon (Vic) Larsen; beloved children, Robert Hunter, Paul (Nancy) Hunter and Colleen (Allen) Ells; treasured grandchildren, Melissa Hunter, Rebecca (Ben) Bowen, Angie Hunter, Keith (Jennifer) Newcombe, Bradley Newcombe, and Bobbie Sue Hunter; great grandchildren Tyler and Tanner Bowen, Alayna Larsen and Gavin Newcombe; and sister-in-law Joyce Hunter of Saranac; along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. Don love traveling with his family, riding motorcycles with Mary, mowing the lawn and working on home improvement projects. Don also loved animals, especially his beloved 17-year-old Pomeranian, Ewok, who recently went before him to heaven. Don touched the lives of many people, receiving many compliments on his trademark handle-bar moustache. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dave Hunter. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home, 158 Mill St., Saranac. Services will also be held at Lake Funeral in Saranac, at 11 a.m. Monday, July 18 with Rev. Joseph Fremer officiating. Interment Easton Cemetery. The family requests donations may be sent to Ionia Area/Lansing Hospice, the marvelous people who gave such wonderful care for Don during the final months.
