Hunter was born September 11, 1857 in Mercer county, near Leisburg, Pa., and died at his home south of Saranac, May 15, 1918, after a long and painful illness from heart trouble. He came to Michigan in 1880 and settled near Crystal Lake. In 1882 he was united in marriage to Jennie Newman, daughter of the late Rev. L. D. Newman, and moved to Saginaw, where he lived many years, coming to Saranac eleven years ago. His funeral services were held at the M. E. church Friday, May 17, at 2:00 p.m. preached by Rev. Branch of Ionia, with short prayer services at the residence, conducted by Dr. Emery, pastor of the M. E. church of Saranac. He was laid to rest in the Saranac cemetery, among many beautiful flowers, where the beautiful Masonic ceremony was conducted by the Boston lodge, F. & A. M. No. 146 of Saranac, with members of Ionia lodge, F. & A. M. No. 36 acting as pall bearers. He led a very quiet and unassuming life. He was converted and joined the Epworth M. E. church in Saginaw in 1889 and was later transferred to the M. E. church of Ionia. He died as he expressed it, resting in the everlasting arms, and we rest our faith in the belief that the loved one has gone on only a little while before, and the ways of the kind Providence are best; that it should be he who goes first to welcome his loved one. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Wright of Detroit, and granddaughter, Nola Wright, and a host of relatives and friends. Card of Thanks We wish to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the members and pallbearers and to the Rev. Branch of Ionia lodge, F. & A. M. No. 36, and to our faithful physician Dr. Beckwith, for the kindness and sympathy shown us during the recent illness and death of our beloved husband and father, and for the beautiful floral offerings, and also to the kind friends and former neighbors who remembered us with their sympathy and lovely flowers.
